On September 3, 2026, Houston became the meeting point for a wide-ranging conversation about Argentina’s energy future as the IAPG Houston and the IAPG jointly hosted the 5th edition of Shale in Argentina at The Post Oak Hotel.
The event brought together government authorities, industry leaders, investors, service companies, and other stakeholders to discuss Vaca Muerta’s remarkable growth, its next phase of development, and the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
Throughout the day, discussions covered the breadth of Vaca Muerta’s development landscape, from upstream operations and oilfield services to infrastructure, local communities, LNG, NGLs, exports, investment, and access to global energy markets. The conversations highlighted both the progress achieved to date and the work required to support the continued development of Argentina’s unconventional resources.
We were honored to welcome Alec (Alejandro) Oxenford, Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to the United States; MarÃa Tettamanti, Argentina’s Secretary of Energy; Rolando Figueroa, Governor of the Province of Neuquén; Mariano Gaido, Mayor of Neuquén; and Claudio Larraza, Mayor of Plaza Huincul.
The program also featured perspectives from leading industry voices, including Horacio MarÃn, President and CEO of YPF; Gerbert Schoonman, President, Shale and Tight at Chevron; Andrés Weissfeld of S&P Global Energy; and Ernesto López Anadón, President of IAPG.
The IAPG Houston President Carola Rawson opened the event, setting the stage for a day of substantive dialogue across the Vaca Muerta value chain. Panels and keynote discussions provided perspectives from operators, service companies, infrastructure providers, and other participants in Argentina’s energy sector, with a particular focus on what will be required to translate Vaca Muerta’s resource potential into sustained growth and greater access to international markets.
Our CommunityA special recognition goes to the current and former IAPG Houston scholars who supported the event throughout the day. Their involvement contributed to the strong sense of community that has become an important part of IAPG Houston’s activities.
We also extend our appreciation to the Consulado Argentino en Houston for its official endorsement of Shale in Argentina 2026 and its continued support of the IAPG Houston community.
