IAPG Houston recently hosted Tomás Ocampo, founder and CEO of Unblock, for a webinar highlighting the company’s groundbreaking work. Unblock is a forward-thinking start-up dedicated to decarbonizing the upstream oil and gas industry by leveraging high-performance computing. Specifically, Unblock reduces the carbon footprint of upstream operations by harnessing energy from natural gas streams that would otherwise be flared, applying it to advanced computing processes such as AI training, computational biology, and blockchain.
Currently operating in Vaca Muerta, Unblock is executing a widely announced partnership with Tecpetrol. Tomás explained why Vaca Muerta is an ideal location for testing Unblock’s innovative approach and the immense potential for scaling operations within this vast unconventional play. While the journey has not been without its challenges, Tomás also shared insights into the hurdles Unblock has overcome and the strategies that enabled the company’s progress.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Tomás Ocampo for his participation in the webinar and for sharing the Unblock case with us. Events like these reinforce IAPG Houston’s mission to provide a platform for the exchange of cutting-edge scientific and technological knowledge relevant to Argentina’s energy sector.
